Help Save Wildlife
By 2025 as many as one fifth of all animal species may be lost, gone forever. In recent times, hundreds of species have become extinct as a result of human activities: Habitat destruction by logging; ever-encroaching human settlement; pollution of water, soil, and air; unmanaged fishing that exhausts fish stocks; and illegal hunting to supply the demand for skins, hides, traditional medicines, food, and tourist souvenirs all threatens species' existence. Extinction is forever. We must act now. Time is running out.
Help Save Aquatic Animals
Over 70 percent of the surface of our world is covered by oceans. Oceans play a critical role in sustaining biodiversity and regulating climate and weather. Because of destructive human activity, the health of our oceans and the animals that inhabit them is in serious jeopardy. Fish quantities are plummeting in almost every ocean worldwide. Seabirds, turtles and marine mammals suffer terrible deaths by irresponsible fishing practices every day. Commercial whaling has severely depleted whale populations, driving some species to extinction.
Help Save Farm Animals
Farm animals have unique personalities. They're fascinating creatures with the ability to love, form friendships, mourn, get angry, and show a variety of other emotions. They are deserving of our respect and our compassion. The consolidation of farms in recent years has radically altered the face of farming. Today more animals are being raised on less land, with profound effects on the animals, rural communities, and the environment. This shift in farming has been termed "industrial agriculture" or "factory farming."
Help Save Companion Animals
In a perfect world, animals would be free to live their lives to the fullest: raising their young, enjoying their native environments, and following their natural instincts. However, domesticated animals cannot survive "free" in our concrete jungles, so we must take as good care of them as possible. People with the time, money, love, and patience to make a lifetime commitment to an animal can make an enormous difference by adopting from shelters or rescuing animals from a perilous life on the street.
Help Save the Planet
Earth Day is celebrated around the world on April 22. There are many ways you can celebrate Earth Day Every Day. Volunteer. Recycle. Install solar panels on your roof. Organize an event where you live. Change a habit. Help launch a community garden. Communicate your priorities to your elected representatives. The possibilities are endless! Do something nice for the earth, have fun, meet new people, and make a difference.
